On the sunny Saturday, October 20th, 2018, we gathered in Moravske toplice, where experts from different fields met and combined our knowledge and experience to enrich the program.
October 12, 2018, World Arthritis Day, hospitals across Slovenia
We celebrated the World Arthritis Day at the dr. Peter Držaj Hospital, the General Hospital Celje, as well as the General Hospital Novo mesto. The later offered their knowledge and information on a stand with materials for two days.
The best attended stand was in the lobby of the General Hospital in Celje, where health professionals form the Celje Rheumatology Department offered advice and information about the early recognition and treatment of rheumatic diseases. The event was well visited as it was advertised on the radio, in the newspapers and on the Internet.
Experts from various health professional profiles -from physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses and rheumatologists- rotated on stand in Ljubljana. Visitors had the opportunity to gain a wide range of information focused on their problem.
October 1st to 3rd, 2018, Cankarjev dom, Ljubljana, Festival for third lifetime (Seniors Festival).
We disseminated information on rheumatic diseases for the entire Festival time. Experts on the stand offered passerby’s detailed advice for their problems and information on how to improve their quality of life. Many different forms of written instructions were also available.
An extraordinary well attended lecture “What is rheumatism and what is not rheumatism ” has shown that people need and want to learn more about rheumatic diseases, their recognition and treatment.
May 29, 2018, Development and Education Centre Novo mesto
We presented the campaign »Don’t Delay Connect Today«. Katja Perdan Pirkmajer, MD PhD, lectured on the difference between osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis and the importance of good multidisciplinary cooperation. Occupation therapist Barbka Huzjan encouraged the debate by applying the presentation of occupation therapy.
After the event, a constructive debate has developed on how to enable patients from Dolenjska region to visit a occupation therapist, the importance of involving nurses and physiotherapists in their treatment. The President of the Slovenian Association of Rheumatic Patients presented the possibility of visiting a demonstration apartment, where there are tools that can improve the quality of life of patients. The rheumatologist Žužek Tanja MD and nurse Helena Peterle from the General Hospital Novo mesto joined the event.

We joined the Slovenian Association of Rheumatic Patients on Prešeren Square on May 19 2018, to mark the World AS day (I have AS. How to continue?). We dissaminated information about the importance of early recognition of inflammatory rheumatic diseases among the passers-by as part of the »Don’t Delay Connect Today« campaign.

The campaign was presented to healthcare professionals. Dr. Ostrovršnik had a lecture titled ” When is arthralgia suspicious for progression to inflammatory rheumatic disease?”. A very good response from the audience, who actively participated in the discussion with their own examples from practice.

On a sunny Saturday, in a pleasant ambience between books an event was held dedicated to the early recognition of rheumatic diseases. We recorded this event for educational purposes and we will share it on our website.
17 to 19 April, 2018, MEDICAL fair, Gornja Radgona
People with joint problems have visited our stand at the MEDICAL – International fair of modern medicine. During the lecture, they received practical guidance on how to help with their households items in their everyday life.
March 17 and 18, 2018, ALTERMED fair, Celje
The visit to the stand was good. Visitors have shown high interest in fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis. Most people who stopped at the stand had problems with joints. On Sunday March 18, 2018 Katja Perdan Pirkmajer, MD PhD, lectured on the difference between osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, the effect of diet on gout and the treatment approach of inflammatory rheumatic diseases. Listeners were interested in the pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment possibilities.

Selected doctors and pharmacists got acquainted with the campaign »Don’t Delay Connect Today«. They find this way of public awareness raising appropriate, and they also recognized the importance of referring patients to the Slovenian Association of Rheumatic Patients.

On January 31, 2018, the Slovenian Association of Health Professionals in Rheumatology in cooperation with the Slovenian Association of Rheumatic Patients carried out the first event in order to raise awareness among patients and relatives about the early recognition of rheumatic diseases. The main motto of the campaign is »Don’t Delay Connect Today« and is part of the European Don’t Delay Connect Today« campaign under the auspices of the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR).
The response of visitors and patients was very good, they searched for information they received on the stand, both oral and written material.
